Easy Tips on Bonding with your Baby

When you have a new baby, it can be hard to know what to do and how to best care for them. New parents often feel like they are on an island of one, with no-one around who shares their experience.

Even with second or third time parents, it is not uncommon to feel anxious about how to bond with their newborn baby. Every new child is a fresh, vulnerable, and exciting experience. You might worry that you’re not doing enough for your child or that your baby isn't responding to you the way you want him or her to.

But there's nothing wrong with how you're bonding with your little one! Each relationship develops in its own time and these feelings are natural for new parents.

There's a lot to love about being a new parent. The sleepless nights, the stress, and the countless photos of your baby that you'll end up with on your phone - they're all worth it. But sometimes as parents, we forget how special our bond with our child is.

If you’re a mother or father wondering how to bond with your newborn baby, here are some simple steps that can help get you started. Remember, the first few weeks of a baby's life are key to bonding.

Hold, Touch and Cuddle your Newborn often

I know this is like expected but I want to stress the need to be intentional about this is so important. Even when you’re not feeling like it, just remember it’s an activity that needs to be done. Your touch communicates more to your child than anyone else’s.

When your Baby is crying, give them Attention

We all like attention from the person we love right? So you can imagine how much your baby loves it when you give them undivided attention.

Reassure your Baby when you talk to them

There is a tone of voice that we’re spoken to that makes us feel comforted because it is reassuring. Try and reassure your baby when you’re talking to them. It makes them feel safe.

Sing Lullabies

This will always be timeless. Singing sweet and happy songs to your baby fills them with good hormones. Who knows, you might just be nurturing the next superstar.

Make Eye Contact while you’re interacting with your Baby

Nothing speaks I’m with you like regular and sustained eye contact. You can even throw in a smile and watch your baby light up.
